Off-duty police officer fatally shoots intruder

(06-21) 04:42 PST HAYWARD -- An off-duty San Leandro police officer fatally
shot an intruder who entered his home Wednesday evening, Hayward police said
today.
Officers responded to a home in the 22000 block of Fuller Avenue around 7:10
p.m. after they received reports of a shooting, according to police. Upon
arrival the officers found a male on the floor just inside the home
suffering a gunshot wound.
The intruder was taken to Eden Hospital, where he died, according to police.
Investigating officers reported that evidence suggests the off-duty officer
shot the intruder in defense of his family.
