Guest Joe S.
Hurricane Katrina destroyed 7,000 homes in Pass Christian, Mississippi, alone -- that's not damaged -- that's totally, completely destroyed -- nothing left but concrete slabs. Hurricane Katrina destroyed 5,000 homes in Waveland and Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi, alone -- that's not damaged -- that's totally, completely destroyed -- nothing left but concrete slabs. And these numbers do not include the destruction in Long Beach, Gulfport, and Biloxi, MS, and do not include the businesses, hospitals, sewer systems, water systems, electrical grid, telephone and cable grid, bridges, wharves, and railroad tracks that were totally destroyed. Oh, wait a minute -- I forgot -- Southern California is a reliable Republican area filled with middle- and upper-income white folks. We people living on the Mississippi Gulf Coast were low-income white and black folks who elect Democrats. Sorry. I got carried away.

Southern California voted for both Gore and Kerry in the last 2 elections. The LA area is solidly Democratic. Orange and San Diego counties vote Republican but not as overwhelmingly as they used to. The response was STATE led, primarily state and locally funded, state managed, and only federally assisted. Planning was done before the onset of the fires - men, materiel, and planes had already been moved to the area PRIOR to the fires. You can blame Bush for the Katrina fiasco. You cannot give the Feds much of the credit for the preparation in CA - it was all state and Ahnold. Sure the Feds screwed up Katrina - but so did the state and local governments. WB Yeats Bush - go home. We don't need or want you out here, and can't wait until you get the hell out of Washington and into some high security federal facility. You can also send out National Guard back here where they belong.
