First of all, Linkin Park isn't a 'he'.

Second of all, their lyrics aren't retarded. Well I guess that's your opinion. But anyway, if you think about it, it makes sense. It's a metaphor. The moon's light comes from the sun and the songs saying that the sun doesn't 'give light to the moon' thinking that the moon should owe the sun something in return. It's like saying that people shouldn't give somebody something and expect something in return.

I'm not very good at explaining things but I think that's what those lyrics mean.
