Canada's economy will strengthen in 2014 after lower than expected growth so far this year, the International Monetary Fund said Wednesday. However, Canadian consumer spending has remained strong. Machinery and equipment investment declined in the first half of 2013 and non-energy exports remained well below the levels reached after earlier recessions, owing to weak global demand and a strong Canadian dollar. Pipeline limitations also weighed down energy exports.
