Can't sync Jornada in Win 7

I have HP Jornada 540 and HP Pavilion with Windows 7. Win 7 won't let me download ActiveSync and Windows Mobile Center doesn't recognize the Jornada. I continue to get the Code 10 error and have tried all the suggestions in this thread. Are there alternatives?
