Guest SheBlewHimDidYouBlowHim
http://www.wlky.com/news/15796602/detail.html MARION, Ky. -- A western Kentucky toddler died after she and her mother became stuck in flood waters. Kentucky State Police said Kate Hearod of Hampton died Friday morning at the Livingston County Hospital, about three hours after she and her mother became trapped in high water just south of Marion, located in Crittenden County. State police said Heather Hearod was southbound on Kentucky 855 around 5:30 a.m. when she drove into high waters and lost control of her vehicle. She grabbed her daughter and got out of the vehicle, but the pair became separated as Hearod tried to reach higher ground. The 2-year-old was pronounced dead at the Livingston County Hospital

I rather gathered the impression from the tirade that the water killed the little girl. Did I miss the smiting bit in some way? As to your God 1 to God 2 transition, you have a point. The way I see it, the Bible is not a single document; it describes the growing and developing understanding that human beings had of God. The 'vengeful angry (jealous, as a word is prone to misunderstanding) God' makes little sense to us, but then we don't live the kinds of lives those who wrote about him lived. > > As you probably realise I don't believe in either version but if I did would > give serious misgivings about hiring it as a baby sitter. Did I miss the smiting bit in some way? Probably something like if a god sets up a cycle in which people live, then die, then live again the dying part is more than just an inconvinience for most people. Then to add insult to injury the god makes an endless variety of ways to die some of them horrendously painfull and in the case of some diseases and old age there is the added factor of humiliating death. The little girl drowned which was a very unpleasant experience for the kid, choking on cold water and gasping for air while she probably tried to scream for her mother. She never really had a chance to sin or do anything to deserve such a fate. Yet god is quite happy with this set up or he would do something about it. As to your God > 1 to God 2 transition, you have a point. The way I see it, the Bible is > not a single document; it describes the growing and developing > understanding that human beings had of God. I think you have a concept of a "creating God" that is at odds both with the facts of the world and with Christian theology. Bad things happen - it's a consequence of the universe behaving in predictable ways that we call 'laws of nature'. > > The little girl drowned which was a very unpleasant experience for the kid, > choking on cold water and gasping for air while she probably tried to scream > for her mother. Perhaps it would have been better just not to have created a system where little girls drown in the first place, humans manage to take the pain out of death for pets and occaisionally people who are close to a distressing death by the magic of euthenasia. This would give the impression that humans can empathise more for instance with a person dying in agony with an incurable cancer than the god acredited with creating both the disease and the sufferer in the first place. >> As to your God >>> 1 to God 2 transition, you have a point. Again, you seem to be missing the point - I suspect because you have a very naive grasp of what Christians mean by "God". Do you mean a universe in which drowning is impossible in some way? or a universe where the properties of water change depending on who or what falls into it? Or a universe where there is no water to drown in? > > This would give the impression that humans can empathise more for instance > with a person dying in agony with an incurable cancer than the god acredited > with creating both the disease and the sufferer in the first place. Again, I think you have a very naive, Sunday School image of God - which is not necessarily to say that you yourself are either naive or immature. The world proceeds in accordance with the laws of nature God has set up - the question of God "wanting" a soul is, I fear, very old-fashioned. > > >>>>> As to your God >>>>>> 1 to God 2 transition, you have a point.
