Americans should be favored in this year's Ryder Cup given world rankings and revamping efforts after losing six of the seven events, European Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke said Wednesday. On the eve of the 98th PGA Championship at Baltusrol, the 2011 British Open champion from Northern Ireland also named Scotland's Sam Torrance his fifth assistant captain and said Sir Alex Ferguson might make a team room return to inspire the Europe team. Clarke also says he will try to balance out what looks to be a rookie-filled Europe side with veteran captain's choices to determine the holders' final lineup for the September 30-October 2 showdown at Hazeltine in Chaska, Minnesota.
