The Clintons donated $10 to themselves. After sitting on the money
they donated to themselves for six years, after Hillary anounced her
candidacy they finally started to spend half if it. You can bet they
used large portions to travel around the country campaigning while
writing it off as charitable donations.
How? Let's say they gave $100,000 to the Audibon society. They would
schedule a trip to an Audibon office which just happens to be where
their next campaign stop is located. Suddenly the airfare (private
jet?) and the hotel rooms and the food all get written off.
In contrast, money given to campaigns is not deductible. But their
donation to themselves IS deductible. The lady who 'made' $100,000 in
the cattle futures marketplace does it again.
