DizzyME
How can we make people stand up and take notice of the things that are going on in the world today? What will it take to make people take a stand and use their citizenship before their rights slip away? I am a college student in my mid twenties, and I am so annoyed at the lack of interest my fellow students have in issues of government and human rights. People are too concerned with going to the next frat party and who they'll "hook up with" to worry about world problems. I was hoping that the past election would help to get people to give a damn, but once the election was over, the few that did raise their voices quieted them once again. I am attempting to form an organization at my college to inform students of current world issues. Not that anyone will give a damn, but at least I'll know I tried to do something... And my point? It pisses me off that people don't care about the issues that are going on in the world. Those that do just want to bitch about it, instead of tryin gto do something about it. tizz
Join amnesty international, or some other proactive group on campus, then accept that fact that it is the same for EVERY generation, yet somehow life goes on Who Knew? DizzyME
There are NO organizations like that on campus. I've had someone bring up the idea of starting a chapter of Amnesty International here.
tizz
What the hell school do you go to? I have never heard of a school without some kind of proactive group. Crispy Critter
Maybe you could join the ROTC? and after graduating, i'm guessing you're going for a doctor's degree considering your age join the military and get mono a mono with protecting American rights... Fuck the military. gasp Yes I said it. I would move to Canada before fighting in a so-called war for this country. I have considered the Peace Corps. And before anyone freaks out, I am not against those who fight for this country, I have plenty of family members who are in the military, and I respect the fact that THEY are willing to fight-- but personally I don't believe in so many of the things that the government has the military doing at this time. So perhaps I should rephrase my first comment.... "Fuck the government" makes a bit more sense...

Yeah, they had something last year but it fizzled out. Now see why I am so bothered by this? That's why I really want to try to get something started. It is a medium sized state university, but people here just don't seem to give a damn.
tizz
There is also Americorp (I think it is still around) if you are not into the four year Peace corp comitment and there are thousands of summer intern credit things you can volunteer for over seas. It all depends on your level of comintment. I girl I went to HS with just came back from working in a orphanage in Africa and said it was teh most rewarding ans educational experience of her life and in the end made a HUGE difference to the people there. Just decide what it is you want to do then find a way to do it. Not really that hard if oyu are passionate. Hell, my best friend and I started our own non-profit org because we wanted to DO something (still waitng on tax exempt status but we have dreams and plans) It's a life time ammitment I was willing to give Quote "An intelligence that is not humane is the most dangerous thing in the world" Ashley Montague "No one should have to walk alone" Phuong Du "An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" Ghandi "If I were asked to define an American in a single phrase, I would say 'An American is a person who has the right to be different' and I think that right is growing" William Manchester
