computer locks up in screen saver

In my windows xp pro computer, the computer locks up when it goes into screen saver. This is a new installation and started after I installed the video drivers that came with the motherboard. My only recourse is to restart the computer, only untill the screen saver comes on. I've used multiple installation discs with the same results. I installed SP2. Is this a motherboard/cpu issue?
