Publisher's Note
================
The European Court of First Instance on Thursday struck a
blow for greater transparency in Brussels decision-making,
ruling against a European Commission attempt to use data
privacy protection rules to justify withholding the names
of lobbyists with whom it meets.

The judgement concerned a complaint by a UK-based beer
importer which wanted to know who had been invited to a
stakeholder meeting related to an EC investigation into a
possible violation of EU competition law. The ramifications
could reach far beyond this particular case, turning the
spotlight on the privileged access and influence over EU
policies which some lobbyists have.

As Erik Wesselius of Corporate Europe Observatory says:
"the judgement is very good news for all those (both inside
and outside the institutions) who want to improve
transparency in EU decision-making."

Comment of the Week
-------------------
Commenting on our piece "Macedonia firm on name in dispute
with Greece", Zana Popovska-Bozinovska writes:

"'Skopje wants the name Macedonian Republic' is absolutely
not true, because Macedonia wants its constitutional name
'Republic of Macedonia' which is of course different of what
you write. The other mistake is 'Macedonia-Skopje Republic'.
There has never been such proposal, the proposal was
'Republic of Macedonia-Skopje'."
