"The sky is falling!" Yes, Chicken Little, this time you got it right.
Besides him, the proponents of 'Star Wars' are also likely to have
one of those smug "I told you so!" expressions on their faces.
It appears that a US spy satellite has quit on the job and decided
to return home to earth. Although the vast majority of this planets
surface is covered with water, the Pentagon has no idea where
this thing is going to land ... or on whose head.
The really nasty part is that even if it doesn't hit anyone, the 1,000
pounds
of toxic Hydrazine fuel aboard will make a convincing chemical weapon.
The plan is for the U.S. Navy to strike the target while it is still
in space - 130 miles above the earth. Points will be awarded for
a direct hit on the fuel tank or for altering the course of the
resultant debris to land over water.
What will happen if one of those fancy anti-missle missles
misses its target? Ah, think positive ... they are not 'likely'
to miss, right? Just to be sure I'm going to call my insurance
company and see if I'm covered for this. Space Defender.
The suspense is killing me.
