There's no doubt that they existed, and that they buried their dead.

Did they go to heaven?

In all the years I've frequented debate forums, I've never heard that question posed.

Lets assume their is a Christian god and the bible holds true to apply the "rules" of god to all intelligent beings that ever existed.

Wait a minute....hey......according to Christianity Neanderthals didn't exist. So the question is mute. We can't question whether they went to a Christian heaven if their existence is not recognized by the bible.

Nah, they all went to hell.

The view that the bible is historicaaly true has actually become a minority viewpoint among Christians. There are many Christians who accept evolution. Man and chimp last shared a common ancestor 6-8 million years ago. The same question could be asked about our ancestors for the last 6-8 million years. Most of us on this board are products of the human line of the chimp/human divergence. I believe a couple individuals on this board are members of the chimp line.

Any Christian that accepts evolution is no Christian at all. Its akin to a black guy joining the Klan. Christian apologists make me sick through their hypocrisy.

How is it fair for you to decide what Christians can and cannot believe?

Many Christians nowadays don't take the Bible literally, it is taken mostly as a book of fables, with morals to the storys to help them lead godly lives.

How is it fair? How can you even ask a dumbfuck question like that?

In the typical selfish American tradition, people want to call themselves Christians, but not follow the bible. The bible is Christianity. Contained within are the rules set forth by god himself, reportedly. Logic has dissolved most of what the bible claims. So the only recourse for Christians was to retool the meaning of the bible. Make it a different entity.

Like god murdering innocent children in order to teach a Pharaoh a lesson? Oh but lets not pay attention to that part. Its not a sweet moral lesson. Bypass it and move on to the story of Adam and Eve. Wait, thats got murder in it as well. How about the great flood, thats a nice moral tale. Oh, ewwww, ya thats right. Millions of people murdered on a whim. Hmmm, hows about we just teach the preachings of Jesus. Those are nice. God may be a relentless mass murderer, but his son is swell.

You mean like when their fucking their wives best friends, or stealing from the church funds, or molesting their children? Calling ones self a Christian is just a cover for their own gross acts of sin. Sure there are good Christans, but there are good Satanists as well.

Either believe the bible or don't. If any part of the bible is shown to be flawed, then the whole thing must be dismissed as fiction. Even the sweet moral fables of death, murder, sodomy, and the like.

Actually, CHRISTians follow the teachings of Christ, so in theory, the rest of that garbage could be left out

Sadly, there are many interpretations of what different passages in the Bible mean, thus many branches of Christianity. In short, everyone decides what it means to them.

Yes, but all those bad things happened in the OLD testament, when God was vengeful. After Jesus, he mended his ways, and became a good guy.

It's not nice to lump everyone into one group and generalize

Calling ones self a Christian is just a cover for their own gross acts of sin.

Sometimes, yes.

Sure there are good Christans, but there are good Satanists as well.
Satanists are bad and will rot in hell!!

Decisions, decisions....to believe, or not to believe. That is the question.

In Christianity, most of the focus is put on the New Testament. When confronted with the atrocities of the OT, they simply brush it off as "God showing his softer side" and "The teachings of Jesus are what is important".

No skin off my back. Definitely not a Christian. I quit buying into that propeganda bullshit a looong time ago. Just playing Devil's advocate ;) ;)

1) "Logic" hasn't dissolved one iota of the bible... You keep stating this as fact and have yet to prove your point. This statement is wrong on so many levels I don't even know where to begin, you need to either shut up about it or state your evidence!

2) Personally, I believe what the bible says... but If someone else doesn't believe it that is OK too and they believe how they want.

I can't continue to repeat myself over and over again.

LOGIC:(1) : a science that deals with the principles and criteria of validity of inference and demonstration : the science of the formal principles of reasoning.

Logic dictates to us what is and is not reasonable to believe or to support as factual. If you can't conclude the gross absence of logic in the biblical stories, then I can't help you to understand.

Logic" hasn't dissolved one iota of the bible...

The great flood.

Logic" hasn't dissolved one iota of the bible...

Adam & Eve.

Logic" hasn't dissolved one iota of the bible...

Genesis.

Logic" hasn't dissolved one iota of the bible...

The resurrection of Christ.

Logic" hasn't dissolved one iota of the bible...

The depiction of time from the start (Genesis) to the end of time (Revelations) with no mention of scientifically proven events that were far more consequential then what IS mentioned.

The burden is not upon me to "prove" the presence of illogical text in the Bible. It is upon you to prove the logic behind the aforementioned events. Logic is a term that is not subject to debate. We all know what it is. What is debatable is where the term is allowed to be applied.

The Great Flood

Many cultures incorporated some "great flood" myth into their religious texts, including Christians, Hindus, Sumerians, Babylonians....you get the picture.

Undersea explorers believe they may have found what was the origin of the "great flood myths". So, logic doesn't defy that particular aspect of the Bible anymore.

http://archives.cnn.com/2000/NATURE/09/13/great.flood.finds.ap/index.html

Many ancient Middle Eastern cultures have legends of a great flood, including the Bible story of Noah.

Columbia University researchers William Ryan and Walter Pittman speculated in their 1997 book "Noah's Flood" that when the European glaciers melted, about 7,000 years ago, the Mediterranean Sea overflowed into what was then a smaller freshwater lake to create the Black Sea.

Last year Ballard found indications of an ancient coastline miles out from the current Black Sea coast. The new discovery provides evidence that people once lived in that now inundated region.

Does this prove the Bible is true? Absolutely not, since other cultures predating Christianity had many many similarities to the Bible, including the floods.

Unless, of course, you redundantly repeat yourself over and over again! :D

I will stipulate what logic is... How does logic invalidate the bible?

OK... I am waiting...

1) Debating 101... The burden of proof is ALWAYS on the one who proposes a statement. YOU proposed the statement that logic has "dissolved" the authenticity of the bible... I am still waiting on the proof.

2) There is agood reason for this rule, a debator can propose any preposterous statement as long as he absolved from backing up the statement.

3) I fail to see how a story can be either true or false simply by the absence or presence of known fact. For example: "Hogan's Heroes" is not a TRUE story because U.S. forces were in Europe fighting Nazi forces in the early 1940's. Homer's "Iliad" is not a False story because it fails to mention the "bronze age".

Minus the whole thing about the great flood encompassing the entire planet, not a small section of it. So back pedal all you want, science HAS proven the bible wrong on that point.

I promise to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted. That I will never just accept what I am told. That I will never fall in love with safety and forget liberty. I promise that I will look for the lie in every pretty story and the bribe in every convenience.
