Dixie Chicks, Mary J. Blige win big at Grammys

BY EVELYN McDONNELL

The Dixie Chicks made a remarkable comeback from controversy, and Mary

J. Blige and the Red Hot Chili Peppers proved that endurance can lead to

triumph, at the 49th annual Grammys on Sunday.

Early in the show, the Dixie Chicks defiantly sang they were ''still

waiting'' to make nice after the uproar that greeted Natalie Maines'

negative comments about President Bush in 2003 on the eve of the war in

Iraq.

''We're ready to make nice,'' a choked-up Maines said a little over

three hours later, as the all-female trio picked up their final and fifth

award, for album of the year for Taking the Long Way Home. The singer

thanked Grammy voters for making a statement about freedom of speech by

honoring the group. ``I think people were using their voice in the same way

this loudmouth did.''

It was a vindication for the Chicks, who have been largely shut out of

country radio since '03 and were completely passed over in recent Country

Music Association and the Academy of Country Music Awards: Two of the three

Grammys the Chicks won came in country categories. They also took home

trophies for song and record of the year........

If it's not the music (and I don't know)

it's the growing opposition among

the American people to bush,jr's

unnecessary unwinnable war.

Bombs kill at least 80 people in Iraq

BUSHRA JUHI

Associated Press

BAGHDAD, Iraq

Thunderous explosions and dense black smoke swirled through central

Baghdad on Monday when two car bombs tore through a crowded marketplace,

setting off secondary blasts and killing at least 71 people, police said.

Another bombing nearby killed at least nine.

The violence came on the first anniversary, according to the Muslim

lunar calendar, of the bombing of the important Shiite Golden Dome shrine in

Samarra, north of the capital. That attack by al-Qaida in Iraq militants set

off the torrent of sectarian bloodletting that has turned Baghdad and much

of central Iraq into a battleground.

A column of smoke hundreds of feet wide billowed 1,000 feet above the

market near the east bank of the Tigris River and the Central Bank.

Ambulances and pickup trucks rushed many of the nearly 165 wounded to

nearby al-Kindi hospital in the largely Shiite region that has been hit by a

series of deadly bombings since Jan. 1.

The worst carnage occurred about 12:25 p.m. when two parked car bombs

exploded shortly after the government called for a 15-minute period of

commemoration for the Feb. 22 Samarra bombing.

The bombs struck within a minute of each other, targeting two

buildings about 200 yards apart. One of the cars was parked near the

entrance to a parking garage under one of the buildings.

Shops and stalls were obliterated and billowing smoke blackened the

entire area on a sunny day in Baghdad.

Debris and clothing mannequins were scattered in pools of blood on the

floor of the warehouse-type building while men tossed plastic chairs onto

piles. Two men carried a limp body, while small fires burned in rubble

outside the building.

Mohammed Najaim, whose shop was set ablaze, said one of the cars was

parked in a garage under a two-story market called Al-Arabi, next to the

Iraqi central bank. Najaim said flames were coming out of the garage, which

holds hundreds of cars.

About a half-hour earlier, a bomb hidden in a bag exploded in a

crowded area near a popular falafel takeout restaurant in the Bab al-Sharqi

area, not far from Shorja, police said, adding that 19 people also were

wounded in that blast.

The attacks, which occurred in busy market districts on the east side

of the Tigris River, came despite stepped up security in the capital as U.S.

and Iraqi forces have launched a new operation aimed at stopping the

sectarian violence that has been on the rise since the Samarra bombing.

The anniversary fell on Monday according to the Islamic lunar

calendar. The lunar month is never longer than 30 days or shorter than 29.

The beginning of each lunar month is set by religious authorities.

One 38-year-old Shiite man said the blasts were clearly timed to

coincide with the commemoration of the Samarra bombing. Other people in the

area screamed, "Where is the government?" "Where is the security plan?" and

"We have had enough!"

Some storekeepers were trying to salvage merchandise. Police and

soldiers were deployed in force, and armed men in civilian clothes were

searching and questioning people coming to the scene.

Elsewhere in Baghdad, some roads and bridges were cordoned off after

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki called for the 15-minute commemoration of the

bombing in Samarra, 60 miles north of Baghdad....."

Jimmy Carter Wins a Grammy Award

Jimmy Carter became the second former U.S. president to win a Grammy Award

when he was honored in the spoken-word category on Sunday for the audio-book

version of his bestseller "Our Endangered Values: America's Moral Crisis."

Carter, 82, shared the award in a rare tie with actress Ruby Dee and her

late husband Ossie Davis for "With Ossie and Ruby: In This Life Together."

Davis, a prominent actor and civil rights activist died of natural causes in

2005, aged 87.

Carter was not present at the music industry's biggest event, which was held

at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Former President Bill Clinton won spoken-word Grammys in 2004 and 2005, as

did his wife, U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, in 1997 while she was still

first lady.

Mrs. Clinton's rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, U.S. Sen.

Barack Obama, won a Grammy last year for the audio-book version of his book

"Dreams From My Father."

Dee was present to accept her award.

"I feel like a rock star, or something," she said, subsequently referring to

her husband. "I truly believe he is present today."

The other nominees were comedians Bob Newhart, Bill Maher and Al Franken.

Hey, you stupid, lying sack of conservadolt shit, that was LAST YEAR, you

stupid asshole. FYI, lying, stupid asshole, that article is from June of

2006. Also FYI, lying stupid asshole, this is February of 2007, not, repeat,

NOT June of 2003. Can you not read, lying stupid asshole?

FYI, THIS YEAR, you stupid asshole, the Chicks stand alone atop the entire

music industry. IOW, you lying sack of conservadolt shit, this latest

idiot.rat just another in a long and unbroken line of stupid asshole lies

we've come to expect from your stupid, lying conservadolt ass.

Here, lying, stupid asshole, enjoy...

Congrats to the Dixie Chicks - Five Grammys, No Conservadolts

Austin's own Dixie Chicks, in a stunning rebuke to the country radio fans

that turned on them and Bush supporters in general, walked away with 5

Grammy awards last night in a coordinated show of support from the entire

music industry. The Chicks won Best Country Album, Best Group Country

Vocals, and all three of the top awards: Song of the Year, Record of the

Year and Album of the Year.

The Chicks won every category in which they were nominated, thoroughly

thrashing talentless rightard trwinkie Carrie Underwood, who appeared on the

verge of tears at one point and at another had to be led across the stage at

another point, stumbling along upstage with a bottle of water, when she

couldn't find her exit.

Undewrwood was given a consolation prize, Best New Artist, joining music biz

legends like Milli Vanilli, Hootie & the Blowfish, Men At Work and Debbie

Boone. Underwood, a self proclaimed Christian conservative, had been

nominated in all 5 categories won by the Chicks, but was completely shut out

of the major awards.

The Chick's sweep marks the first time since 1993 that a group has won all

three top awards and is the first country album to win Album of the Year

since 1963. While critics have been kind to the Chick's latest album, Taking

the Long Way, and sales were robust, it was obvious that politics played at

least as large part in the stunning sweep as the music.

The mouth breathing, big belt buckle wearing, all hat, no cattle cousin

humping goobers who launched venom laced attacks and boycotts at the Chicks

for having the temerity to actually say what they felt were yet again

reminded of their small and ever dwindling importance in modern American

society. But they still have Charlie Daniels.

Way to go, Chicks. You were early to the screw the idiot presidunce

movement, but the vast majority of Americans have finally caught up with

you. The presidunce, mired in all time low and sill falling Nixon-esque

approval numbers, has lost all credibility with the American people while

you (Chicks) are again on the rise. Well done.

Welcome to reality. Enjoy your visit. Slow thinkers keep right.

LMAO! Hey Pelosi, how come you cut off my post in mid sentence? It

couldn't be you were trying to sweep away the awful, provoking

lettering, were you? Tough. I have it right here:

"LMAO! You're just furious that the Chicks took everything you clowns

offered and threw it right back in your face and there is nothing you

can do about it. Maybe you should go back to bitching about the

Speaker's plane, Pelosi, though even the propagandists over at the

Then you go and cite a newspaper article more than seven months old

and don't even mention how the article said the Chicks were selling

out shows in Canada so fast--one of them in eight minutes--that they

had to schedule a second concert. They used the opportunity to shun

your redneck friends, furious that they couldn't listen to the Chicks.

Best of all, they made your heroes eat it raw last night. LMAO! It was

almost as good as November 7th.
