do i still need windows defender even if i have microsoft security essentials?

i have windows 7 home premium and i just installed Microsoft security essentials. I'm just wondering if i need windows defender though. as far as i know you only need to have at least one protection for your computer or else it will slowdown or crash. and does Microsoft security essentials have antispyware as well?
