Double Click Failures with Extended Display

When using an extended desktop with 2nd monitor on the left, double clicking (e.g. on attachments within emails displayed by Windows Mail) does nothing. However it works OK with 2nd monitor on the right, but that is not convenient with my desk layout. How do I fix this?
