Philadelphia Eagles rookie Myke Tavarres on Monday pledged to emulate Colin Kaepernick by refusing to stand for the US national anthem in the latest twist to a controversy that has divided the National Football League. Tavarres, 23, said he planned to sit during the anthem when the Eagles hosted the New York Jets in Philadelphia on Thursday. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Kaepernick has stoked anger after pointedly refusing to stand for the playing of the Star Spangled Banner in pre-season games.
