Our very own emkay is having her first art show up in Calgary this weekend! She has been working incredibly hard to create pieces for the event, and if you stop in and take a peek at her website you will see the phenomenal paintings she's come up with!

Kitchen Sink Studio

em, I wish I could be there but as you know a family situation is preventing me from attending. I want you to know that I will be thinking of you all weekend, and I wish you the very best of luck! Remember....BREATHE! lol

Please, take a moment to give emkay some words of encouragement and support. And check out her site! It's worth your time, I promise.

GOOD LUCK, EMKAY!!!!!! ((((((HUGS))))))

I couldn't make the link work to one of the actual paintings because apparently I'm an idiot.

As if that revelation comes as a surprise to anyone.

I really like bubles and glow bugs, they really speak out to me and remind me of my own childhood.

I think she is very talented and it is too bad she lives so far away from me, I would love to see her work live and in person.

Good luck Em, I am sure people will love your show.

Hey everyone.

Thanks so much for the kudos. I feel like I've been run over by a car, but the response the past four days has been great for my ego. I didn't sell millions of dollars worth, but I've been inundated with orders for prints in the last day online. I was approached by three promoters for a Toronto, Calgary and a Vancouver show, and also by a gallery scout. The money is coming in on the back end so to speak lol.

The market was fun. Most the people travel all over doing show after show. They are kinda like carnies and treat everyone like family. Creepy but kinda cool all at the same time. It was a great experience. Very tiring but absolutely worth it. Thank you all for your support, it means much more to me than I can express.

I trust everyone has been fine in my absence. I sure missed y'all lol. (((Hugglies)))

Be careful making money on the "back end", lol.

Very cool that you did well, getting your name and your pieces some exposure is pretty important, I knew your work would be received well.

So you gonna become one of the "carnies"? Travel place to place doing the shows? It might give you some inspiration getting yourself immersed in that aspect of the world for a little while.

Did any one or two pieces really stand out as being more popular?

Humanitree was the most talked about piece. Everyone wanted it...but no one wanted to pay lol. I believe I will have a commission for a similar one though from a woman that visited yesterday.I could have sold Hack's commission a hundred times over though, but I don't print commissions. I even had one guy want Nocturne permanently inked lol. He wants the tattoo. So that was flattering. My work was very well received, but the economy was a huge factor in sales.

As for the traveling aspect. The shows are very expensive. Booth rental is in excess of 1000$ dollars. This is fine but you need to be confident you will make your costs. Not to mention travel expenditures and shipping costs. I think the traveling could be great fun, but i have a family and their activities and school to attend to as well. we may take in a few as a family and use them as a small vacation as well. We'll bring gramma for babysitting lol.

Cool! My fave is Humanitree, too. Nocturne 2nd, it reminds me of a cool illustration you would find in a book. Have you ever considered being an illustrating artist?

I haven't really considered the illustration artistry thing. I think i could have a lot of work in that too. I'm just afraid the work will pile up making me unable to keep up. When I have to force it to move to quickly I tend to lose interest. Painting is so much different when you "have to" lol. We'll see though. I'm open to any opportunity. The exposure was amazing.

I hear ya. Although you have mentioned you enjoy commissioned work. That way they would tell you what they want or what the story is about and let your talent and imagination do the rest.

I'm glad the show went well though. The ego boost was well deserved.
