Full scan stops when PC goes into resting stage?

If I leave a Full Scan running the PC switches to a 'resting state'and therefore stops the scan, I would have to sit there for an hour waving the mouse about. How to overcome this? Windows & Home Edition on HP Slimline tower. I don't know what Beta is as in the further boxes on this form.
