ghost icon on memory stick

Whenever I copy a file from my hard drive to my memory stick a ghost icon

(looks like a foggy CD) appears on the stick instead of the yellow folder. I

can't open the ghost icon and I can't delete it either. If I try and delete

it disappears then reappears a few seconds later. Is it a virus? Is the stick

corrupted?

That foggy icon is just a file that comes up whenever you copy anything.

It is basically there as a temp copy of the file as it is sent accross.

That's why it disappears.

And its foggy because it's only temporary, and thats why it can't be

deleted.

The foggy icon does not disappear. The original folder icon which I copied

does not appear. All I have on the data stick after repeated attempts to copy

a folder containing no more than Word documents is a foggy icon that can't be

opened. This never used to happen. Also b.t.w. I now have a caption HAPPY

BIRTHDAY following my mouse around the screen. What's going on here?

Thanks
