Well I figure I might as well try starting a thread so here she goes.

I am currently studying Political Science at University and we've recently been discussing Globalization; What it is, who benefits form it and wither or not those benefits outway the damage it incures in various ways.

Merely take one step in your local shopping mall and you may as well be in China, or Singapore or even Mexico. This is because most of what you can buy, almost anywhere, came form somewhere beyond your borders. The boundaries of business have expanded beyond parent nations and their powerful influences can be felt outside the business world itself. Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology.

The most recent spur of globalization has been underway since the early nineteen eighties. It was brought on by technological advancements in communications and transportation (Examples of these would be the internet as well as more advanced ships and planes etc). Developing countries also played large role in globalization by seeking foreign investment and allowing trade outside their borders. Wither or not globalization is for the greater good is to be interpreted by the individual.

There are many mixed opinions of globalization because of its many mixed effects. On one hand there are many who have benefitted from expanding their trade. For example, the poverty rate of India has been cut in half over the past two decades in large part due to the fact that it opened itself up for trade on a global scale (Despite an ever growing population). Others oppose globalization for various reasons including the destruction of the environment, countless violations of basic human rights and the interference of trade law in the decision making of independent countries.

I am a global citizen, as are most people. I am affected everyday by globalization, wither at the supermarket buying
