Al Gore's Son Arrested on Suspicion of Drug Possession
By VOA News
04 July 2007

Former Vice President Al Gore, second from left, and his wife Tipper
arrive with their son Albert Gore III, right and daughter Karenna Gore
Schiff, left, for the 79th Academy Awards, 25 Feb. 2007
Police in California say they arrested the son of former U.S. Vice
President Al Gore on suspicion of drug possession early Wednesday.

A spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department said Albert
Gore, 24, was speeding on a highway at about 160 kilometers per hour
when police stopped him. The spokesman said police smelled marijuana,
and subsequently searched Gore's car.

The search allegedly yielded a small amount of marijuana, along with
prescription drugs including Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall. The
spokesman said Gore did not have a prescription for any of the drugs.

Gore was released from a jail cell in Santa Ana later Wednesday on
bail of $20,000.

In 2003, Gore was arrested and charged for marijuana possession in the
eastern U.S. state of Maryland after police stopped his car. He
entered a substance abuse program as part of a plea agreement to
settle those charges.

He was also arrested in 2002 for suspected drunken driving.

His father is now a leading environmental advocate.

Well, it certainly looks like he is following in George W. Bush's
footsteps rather than his father

Possession of small amounts of marijuana or valium I don't consider
very serious

Driving under the influence of marjiuana, valium, other legal or
illegal drugs, alcohol is very very serious

Driving 100 mph under the influence of something that interferes with
your judgement is something that I take seriously and hope the
authorities do as well

Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative, child of a President
or Presidential candidate, when you are driving on a public highway
that we share, I want you sober and in control

Period

I don't buy the story...for one, I have immense trouble believing that
a Prius could go 100mph...

I had four cyclinder cars that went 100

The Prius has both a gasoline and an electric power system so in
combination that might get it to 100

Years ago,HP trooper in California were not allowed to use radar guns,
don't know whether that still is the case so I wonder how they clocked
the speed

I know that from driving in California, you really can't get pulled
over for speeding unless you are exceeding the speed limit by a bunch

According to the Prius newsgroup, a Prius will top out at 112 mph.
Try that with a Corvette getting 60 MPH at 70
