You know, I do get harassed for the color of my skin. :(

I'm fair skinned. Painfully fair skinned. I do go outside and enjoy the sun, but I have to slather on 50 SPF sunscreen before I do it otherwise I burn. Today I'm going to the river to go boating and I've already applied my first layer of sunscreen to keep me from frying to a crisp and hating life tomorrow.

A lot of people I know frequent the tanning beds, but I really don't want to do that. I've done it before, but I always get nervous and feel like I'm causing more damage than not and likely that's the case. Plus, some of the folks that use the beds are starting to look a bit...."leathery". I've tried the fake and bake lotions, but good Lord they look fake and I think they stink, so I don't use them either.

I'm 37 years old and I'm learning to accept my extreme whiteness.

People give me grief about it, but I don't care anymore. I am who I am. And I know many men prefer a woman who sports sun-kissed, bronzed skin and that's fine! A nice tan IS beautiful! But I'll never be that woman and that's ok, too.

In fact, I think Cancun is going to be a hoot because I'll be the anomaly. Among a sea of bronzed, beautiful bodies there I will be.....soaking in the sun with my 200 SPF sunscreen in all my alabaster glory! Haha!

Oh well. :)

.........

Are you a sun worshipper? Do you feel subpar unless you're rocking a good tan?

Do you use tanning beds during the winter months to maintain your summer glow?

What are your thoughts on tanning?

I bet I'm whiter than you. I glow in the dark. I blind in the sunlight. I sometimes have a bluish tinge (with bluing for extra whiteness!)

I used to tan in a bed, but only to get a little color going so I wouldn't go lobster red my first time at the lake and for special occasions (mainly weddings I was in.)

I also have a valid medical reason for exposing myself to extra UV rays, so I didn't sweat the bad effects. I was smart about it and limited my exposure. If I get skin cancer it will be because of severe burns I had as a child, not because of 7 minutes in a bed 3 times a week for a month each spring. (Take THAT, mother! :p )

I have friends including my black ones make fun of the glare on their eyes from my white legs when I where shorts or the glare from my bald head. I think its funny too and take no offense to it what so ever.

I tan dark...always have...and I wear a 60 SPF. It doesn't seem to matter. I have used beds before, but I only needed about an hours worth. :

We are water babies, from fishing, boating, swimming, beach going we get a lot of sun and while we do use sunscreen we all end up golden brown by the end of summer each year.

Tami will sometimes hit the beds to keep herself a little brown during the winter monts but I don't worry about it.

I will admit I sometimes kid my friends who are very white, they take it in good stride though, a common reply from them is "at least I don't look the color of poo" lol.

I dunno, Merc....I think I'd be willing to take that bet because I really am fair! At the very least, we'd be neck and neck in our creamy whiteness...lol.

I take it in stride, too, snaf. I'm just teasing about being harassed over it. :)

When I was in Florida, I wore extra SPF and still tanned nice and dark. Perhaps I'll get a nice tan in Cancun, but it's not going to be my top priority while I'm there...haha!

......

It's funny because I'm turned on by dark haired men who are darker complected than myself. I'm simply not attracted to blonde, fair skinned men even though we have them by the buttload up here!

Besides, if my irresponsible ****** and I hooked up with such a fair fellow, we'd have a translucent baby! Poor thing.

I think my artistic side appreciates the contrast in skin color...me creamy and him more olive toned...and if he's on the hairier side, the contrast of hairy vs. smooth and his hard working hands = rough vs. soft.....you get the idea.

Ehhh...to each their own. :)

I used to be relatively dark, but I don't get as much sun these days. My woman, however, is a ginger... So she's translucent. I like girls with pale white skin. I like girls with tans... ****... i just like girls! :D

Here in Florida we get a lot of plump northerners with massive amounts of their white skin show up right after winter breaks up North, and all summer long.

I do admit I giggle a little when I see them on the beaches and stuff.

But, I also feel bad for them when I see the couple red spots they never got any sunscreen on and I just know they will be in bad pain that evening.

I went to the beach this weekend, and took my sneakers off to go walk through the sand (I hate flip flops, so I hardly ever wear them- toe wedgies drive me insane.)

a friend walked up and asked why I was still wearing my socks.

I wasn't...

Merc - one advantage to not using the tanning beds is we won't look old before our time!

I have a cousin who is a sun worshipper and tanning bed fanatic. While she does have bronze skin, it's really damaged and she looks at least 45...and she's 3 years younger than me!

My aunt on my dad's side has fair skin and I resemble her quite a bit. I'm actually ok with that, though, because she's 63 and doesn't look a day over 50! If I can follow in those genetic footsteps, I'll be very pleased.

And I bet Chris loves your fair skin. I once asked my ex if I should tan and he was totally against it. He said he met me with white skin and he thought I should keep it that way....lol.

Tanning beds cause cancer, or so they say.

I'm sick of the sun. I miss rain and clouds and snow. I wear sunscreen as much as possible.

I'm worse off than all of you because I'm not SUPPOSED to be so pale. I'm Hispanic, damnit! :p

Women ain't never happy with their skin color, in the Phillipines they got bleaching parlors instead of tanning parlors.
