How can I completely wipe my hard drive?

I need to wipe an old computer a friend gave to me.

I can not use the DOS method because of administrative issues.

The Windows Recovery Console has limited actions because it requires a password which is unknown.

I can not get administrative permissions.

Is there some sort of software I can use?
