What company would you look out for?

I think in my area i have an option.... Here's 2 options below

I feel like i will have the budget to pick one up soon. I figured either honda or ktm would be a good start. In the near future i want to convert it to motard bike. Why i want a supermoto is because my truck is a gas hog and a bike would be fun to ride during good weather days.

Please share your inputs! :) I dont want to pick a wrong choice if i dont have to. The option of trading my trx for a supermoto was a thought but i dont think i could do that haha.

I'm not sure how your state is, but you wouldn't be able to license either one of those bikes here in Illinois. Make sure to look into this to be sure they can be road legal. The yamaha WR's are very popular super motards as well, i know they are great bikes. I personally would stick with a honda, but that's only because i like honda's.

Long as the owner has a title to it, you can convert it to supermoto in maine. Without title, or even a rebuilt title.... still cant do it.

Just saw a rmz.... think i want that one lol. Person has title for the 06 rmz with some addons, wants an atv. Maybe trade my trx for his bike and some cash. hmmm decisions

What are your intentions with it? Mainly onroad riding, with the ability to take it on trails, or mainly hit trails/track with the option of road use? If you are looking to mainly keep it on the road, why not think about a CRF450X? They are basically set up ready for the road (If I remember correctly) and it's a Honda.

KTM's can be spendy to upkeep... I've had 300 exc and 450 exc, both ate me out of house and home... If you go for the KTM, learn how to do fork seals! Beautiful bikes though...

Thank you omtrx, i've heard the same thing but wasnt so sure. Glad to hear it from other previous owners.

camo fox, i've thought about that. There's a couple ads up for CRF450X.... but none are set up in motard. my intentions are mostly trails/road driving. I dont plan on doing anything huge, just get started with a dirtbike platform now and save up money for street tires and some other addons. Unless i can find a good deal for a already setup supermoto bike trade for my trx. That's something i might consider. Other than that, i have 1800$ now and still counting on a monthly saving basis.

If you can't find something that you want, or that is set up how you want keep banking money and get a hold of GHOTT on here. He had a nice CRF450R for sale that was really clean.

If you are going to really set it up for motard I would look into what rims and tires cost first... You're looking at spending another $1500 plus..

The 450X is geared taller so It might be a little better for street riding then the 450R. The 450X are awesome trail bikes as I'm sure Camo will tell you.

When you get tired of adding up all the cost to make a dirtbike truely streetable.. Look up the Suzuki DRZ400SM. It's done up for motard and its the same motor as the Z400 so theres aftermarket cams and big bores available for it.
