Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 (See below for version information) stops the most recent SapphireTech/AMD/ATI Radeon HD 3850 Video Graphics Display driver at arbitrary times, and locks up the display screen, keyboard and mouse input under completely updated Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium. The system recovers eventually after the screen goes blank several times with a taskbar attached message stating that the AMD display driver has stopped functioning and it has restarted. The task manager indicates a completely loaded CPU (100%) for several minutes. Once, while attempting to catch the problem with the task manager when the system has had locked up, I have captured a dark window with a green angular wedge pattern (like sunburst) drawn in it. This transient has stayed on the screen for a few seconds, and it has not appeared more than once. The system returns to normal as long as the Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 is not running. The Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 is the only program I have used so far that suffers from this problem. The Microsoft Flight Simulator X, Gold Edition with Acceleration, and enhanced by REX Weather Simulator runs flawlessly at the maximum possible resolution (1280x1024x32, and all terrain details are set to the finest possible) with the current AMD driver for indefinite periods of time on the same system. Mozilla/Firefox Explorer also runs flawlessly on the same system for indefinite periods of time, even when using smooth scrolling continuously.
Here are the relevant hardware and software details:
System: MSI MS-6533E Motherboard with Intel Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz, single CPU, 1.5 GB RAM, AGP 4X, SapphireTech, ATI Radeon HD 3850 AGP Video Graphics Card.
Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, completely updated to current.

Mozilla/FireFox Version: 8.0.1
Microsoft Flight Simulator Version: X, Gold Edition, with Acceleration Expansion Pack
REX Weather Simulator Version: 2.0
Note that the Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 has worked well with the much older version of the SapphireTech/AMD/ATI Video Graphics Card Driver (Version 8.1 as packaged with the Video Graphics Card). However, the new SapphireTech/AMD/ATI Video Graphics Card Driver is much faster and much more capable than the Version 8.1. The difference is clearly seen in the performance of the Microsoft Flight Simulator X, which runs much faster and shows a lot more details than that available using the old AMD driver. Hence, there is no point in using the old Video graphics driver.
