ClassyMissFancy
As some of you may have noticed... I am somewhat put off by all of the stereotyping that goes on... not just here... but EVERYWHERE. Lately it has been the "Atheists are..." stereotypes. I have see that, because I am atheist, I must be.. A "wanna-be" intellectual A jackass Out to convince people there is no god Closed minded Spreading propaganda Against believers Against religion Hating Christians Living according to an "atheist belief system" etc... etc... etc... NONE of which is true. And the atheist stereotypes arent the only ones. When I left my ex, the VAST majority of people, both women and men, assumed that because I was leaving him, I must have been leaving for another man. People like my own DAD even went so far as to ask me if I had a boyfriend.. or who I was dating... Wrong. I left because I wanted to... Upon learning that there was no "other man"... the assumption was that I must be gay... WRONG... I'm strictly dickly... But... a woman wouldn't just LEAVE her husband... just because she didn't love him or want to be married to him. Marriages don't end unless someone else bust them up... right? WRONG... marriages end because married people want them to end. But...Women don't leave men unless they have someone to run to... right? WRONG... Only willfully powerless Perpetual Victims need another person to "rescue" them from relationships they don't want to be in... the rest of us just leave. Its the same when people find out what I do for a living... I must want softer crime laws and I must think everything can be cured with a hug and a cookie... Wrong again... There must be a hundred different stereotyped sub-groups to which I have been given honorary membership. So I thought... I can't be the only one who gets labled with all of these broad-sweeping negative assumptions. So what about the rest of you? What are the WORST stereotypes YOU have ever been given?
Jhony5
Its human nature. To rationalize that which they don't understand. Stereotyping is step one to understanding someone that you find foreign in nature. When I left my ex, the VAST majority of people, both women and men, assumed that because I was leaving him, I must have been leaving for another man.First fucking thing I thought when my ex left me. Again, I was attempting to rationalize something that I viewed as entirely irrational. It seemed so sudden and without cause, that I rationalized it by creating my own parameters for this to occur. After the sting wore off, I realized that it wasn't as sudden as it seemed. Its the same when people find out what I do for a living... What exactly is it you do? What are the WORST stereotypes YOU have ever been given?Well I smoke pot, so as soon as someone realizes this, it is assumed that I'm a burnout, probably unemployed more often than not. Along with this is the stereotype that marijuana is a "gateway drug", so I must do other drugs as well. Also since I'm a "drug addict" and a single father, it is inherent that I must be a poor father that is almost completely uninvolved in my daughters life. All these things are completely untrue. I've always had a job. I am very responsible and do not require a co-dependent relationship to get through life. I smoke weed but never do any other drugs, including alcohol. Which some folks refuse to understand. "How can you get high and say you don't drink". Because I smoke weed doesn't mean that its only part of the manifestation of my desire to get fucked up all the time and reject reality. This has become the current theme of anti-marijuana ads on TV nowadays. To depict a pot smoker as someone who hides from reality. The perpetuating of a stereotype that few people will discount. My "drug addiction" fails to interfere with my skills and love as a parent. Yet I must keep my pot smoking as quite as possible in this arena. As many folks will conjure up a mental image of me having my daughter over, sitting her in front of a television while I lock myself in a bathroom and get high all day. Msixty
Well I smoke pot, so as soon as someone realizes this, it is assumed that I'm a burnout, probably unemployed more often than not. Along with this is the stereotype that marijuana is a "gateway drug", so I must do other drugs as well. since I'm a "drug addict" I get the EXACT same attitude thrown at me. I used to smoke an 8th every day after school (not alone mind you) and after i got caught and put in drug classes with all my friends we proved day after day that the stuff they were saying did not apply to us and that it is not something that you can apply the same 'textbook solution/diagnosis' to. We actually felt very offended when the people told us they knew more about marijuana than us because they got a degree in it. Guess what, i got 3 years of on-the-job experience, I'm sure i know more about the affects than you. (i also researched it thoroughly just so i could show up the teacher telling us why we are a threat to society ) the way they talk down to us, we just went and loaded another bowl to spite them. BTW, did you know that 'canvas' came from the term 'cannabis' and that early sails were made of hemp. And guess what lovely plant the first draft of the declaration of independence was written on. 'One nation, higher than god, with fat blunts for all' OH, and i do drink, but refuse ANYTHING stronger than weed or 180 proof. I mean, i don't want to kill myself, just relax and have some fun. (but the cliff climbing with a KA-BAR combat knife was interesting... blade was never the same) anyway, i hate drinking to get drunk, i don't like cheep stuff, all tastes like gasoline to me, so i need to mix it before i can enjoy it, that often gets me left out of parties where it's all going to be straight vodka or some such... oh well. Jhony5
BTW, did you know that 'canvas' came from the term 'cannabis' and that early sails were made of hemp. And guess what lovely plant the first draft of the declaration of independence was written on.Yep. I would go on as I have before but I don't want to hijack CMF's thread. I used to smoke an 8th every day after school (not alone mind you) Ahhh...the good 'ol days. Actually I wish I hadn't smoked when I was in school. It caused me to act like an asshole and shrug authority, when combined with my already bad attitude toward hypocritical teachers. With certain people it causes enlightenment. As a teenager it did just this to me. It enlightened me too the fact that I didn't HAVE too listen to these people tell me what to do. Which was detrimental to my high school career. Thats about the only negative thing I can apply to pot smoking, its effects on the undeveloped and immature mind. The counselor's that you speak of make the mistake of injecting rumor, stereotypes and flat out lies into their rant. Those whom smoke know their full of shit when they stray off-course and use what amounts to trickery to convince kids not to get high. The kids realize the lies, and assume everything they say is a lie as well. Anything that becomes all consuming of your time is a bad fucking thing. Smoking weed all day is no different. For me in my growing age, its both a recreational drug and a therapeutic drug. I never take it to work, nor do I spark up before work. When I get home and I don't have my daughter, its fucking great to sit back, toke up and relax with a fresh bowl. Think of all the people that turn to Prozac and other psycho-reactive drugs to kill the stress and strain of life's bullshit. Medically and legally, many turn to even narcotic substances like Xanex and Valium to relieve to aches and pains of their acquired daily stress. Yet these same people, and the manufacturers of these "legal" drugs, will waste their last breath telling you how bad pot is. Ironically these same drugs have all been documented and tied directly to suicide and murder. Marijuana, NEVER. Anymore I smoke about a half-ounce a week, both by myself and with my bros. How do I justify the expense, financially? 1)I work my ass off and earn enough money for a recreational budget. 2)My recreational budget doesn't include dumb shit like 60 inch HD flatscreens, online gaming, excessive DVD purchases and rentals and all the other wastes of income that many suburbanites are subject too. 3)I never buy marijuana instead of paying bills and providing for my daughter. Many casual drinkers will spend far more on liquor and beer in a week than I spend on dopage. So fuck them square bastards. As too the subject of stereotypes and marijuana. I just laugh at those bitches. People I've discussed this with, both online and in real life, always seem to insist that there must be something there. Something that makes me the drug addict that I must be. Life is short and then we die, when I do I hope I'm high. Quote i am sofa king we todd did. NONE of which is true. I cannot make judgments about your character because we just met but the above stereotypes highlighted in red characterize just about every atheist I have ever met. No worries, I get stereotyped as an agenda-pushing bible-thumping ignorant stuck-in-the-dark-ages religious nut job cult follower. Stereotypes will be around as long as mankind exists. Oh, I hear you there. People assume you are either: A: Enticed away by another man (or...) B: An independent woman who must hate dick. This is a stereotype I especially hate. A woman can be independent, confident, and intelligent- hell, even a feminist. Doesn't mean we munch on bush or hate men. Its the same when people find out what I do for a living... I must want softer crime laws and I must think everything can be cured with a hug and a cookie... Again, I hear you. Back when I was a prostitute, people just assumed I was a nymphomaniac. Bloody stereotypes! I only did it for the money, honey. What are the WORST stereotypes YOU have ever been given? The mindless pin-up thing was pretty harsh. Seriously, though. Er... mostly the religious uneducated holy roller cultist stereotype. Or when I turned a guy down for a date he would ask if I was a lesbian. Uh, no- you're fucking hideous, Jackass. Quote Blah. Jhony5
Sadly, most atheists I have run across on forums are fucking liberals. Liberals...? HA. Thats like saying Hitler kinda disliked Jews. My experience with Atheists is that in general they think no one should ever be executed no matter how many children they've eaten. Abortion is a form of birth control. Christians are Nazis. Homosexuals have been discriminated against by nature itself because same sex couples can't impregnate each other. Yes, these are generalizations/stereotypes, whatever you want to call it. Just like they say that much truth is said in jest, stereotypes are often derived from some semblance of truth. This applies to just about every stereotype. Quote i am sofa king we todd did. builder
I've been banned three times from Stormfront for posting pics of our indigenous people. Maybe it's a good thing? Various Dutch people were arrested and convicted for posting comments on the Stormfront forum. When the content of the messages is aimed at or concerns the Netherlands, then Dutch law becomes operative, independently of where these messages physically exist in the United States. Another negative side effect for the fascists is that postings on Stormfront can be seriously injurious to political reputations. The best example of this is the current Nieuw Rechts leader, Michiel Smit, who posted as a Leefbaar Rotterdam member on Stormfront, a step that still haunts him today. Stormfront also became famous among anti-fascists for the way that vendettas between various right-wingers were fought out in the glare of full publicity. Especially eye-catching was the feud between NA executive member Virginia Kapic and the Dutch People's Union (NVU) leader Constant Kusters, who both, after some kind of personal relationship failure, put heaps of personal and internal stuff on the internet. Also, a controversial commemoration of the 11 September terrorist attacks in the US by Nieuw Rechts and the NNP that was guarded by the Dutch branch of the Jewish Defence League was openly fought out on a Stormfront forum. The former core of Stormfront posters has quit the forum, the only party still active being the NVU. The NA and Nieuw Rechts have opened their own fora, leaving Stormfront as a ragbag of so-called keyboard warriors, antisemitic conspiracy artists, young boneheads and Gabbers and some lost and lonesome right-wing political activists. A clear sign of the decline of the forum are the three current moderators. Where the moderators used to be veterans in the right-wing extremist scene and were carefully selected, now the forum's moderation is in control of three political featherweights, who are young and who have only been active for a few years. If the justice department plans to prosecute Stormfront, the three current moderators are interesting targets, responsible for the grossly illegal messages that they leave standing on the forum and many of which they, themselves, have posted. Msixty
OH! And i got some stereotypes that pisses me off, they're about Alaska. 1) we are not frozen all year round, i can go outside in a t-shirt right now and not even be bothered, and summer is fucking hot. 2) we are not a backwards people living in little shacks (ever see snowdogs? That movie pissed me off) 3) WE ARE A STATE! We are the 49th state, Hawaii is the 50th. We are not a republic, territory, other country, part of Canada (I'd kill myself) or any other bullshit, we are a state in the USA! (the biggest in fact, we are close to one half the size of the lower 48 states) the 'continental US' 4) yes shipping prices suck ass up here, shut the fuck up. 5) we are not all rednecks, or natives, or tree huggers, or normal, but a mix of them all, much like any other state. 6) NO FUCKING IGLOOS!!!!!!!! An igloo is a temporary hunting structure made by Aleut native Americans. It is not a permanent home, and nobody lives in them, quit thinking this if you do. And if you really do think we live in igloos, then i have a 3 story igloo with 5 computers a big screen TV and a jacuzzi. 7) we have oil, we want to drill for it, it won't hurt any animals, we know how to do low impact drilling, stay the fuck out of our states business. 9) we commercal fish, i live in the halibut fishing capitol of the world, leave that alone to assholes, the fucking killer whales eat the seals, not our nets, it's called nature you tree-hugging granola headed shrub cuddlers. Nifty fact: crab fishing in the barring straight in Alaska is the #1 most dangerous job in the nation, with an injury rate of 100% more dangerous even than military service. 10) we get a check every year from the oil company called the PFD (Permenent Fund Dividend) as a 'thankyou' for letting them drill in Alaska, this year every Alaska state citizen got $1106 for free, i wonder what SNAFU spent his on... (this is why we like the oil industry, now open ANWAR!) 11) we are not slash and burn people, we have the strictest oil drilling sanctions in the world. NIFTY FACT: if you see a black spot on the ground on northslope Alaska (oil drilling fields) bigger than a nickel you are required by law to remove the ground 3 feet under and 1.5 feet around it and filter it through an oil-eating chemical bath then rinse that out the replace it and repair any damage.
