I have a brand new Dell Latitude E6220 that does not have a DVD drive. I am attempting to install WinXP on it and so I am using a DVD drive connected via eSATA. Setup gets as far as "Setup is starting Windows" (this is after asking me for 3rd party boot drivers etc) and BSODs with 0x000007b.
I have ran a full diagnostic including memtests, HDD tests etc and all is fine. The actual DVD (WinXP SP3) is confirmed working as well.
I came across this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/stop-0x0000007b-error-message-during-a-clean/fa2d7d11-0e69-4857-969b-47ee9326dcf3
Which says to change the SATA mode in BIOS to IDE mode, but of course this BIOS does not have that IDE option listed. I can change SATA to Disabled, ATA, AHCI or RAID On. I'm fairly certain AHCI is the correct setting (if I change it to ATA, the eSATA DVD drive no longer appears).
The BIOS is fully up to date.
Any ideas? Thanks.
