"Hezbollah mourns its assassinated leader
Wednesday, 13 February, 2008 @ 8:25 PM

Beirut / Damascus/ - Lebanon's Hezbollah and
Palestinian groups accused Israel of killing a high-ranking
leader of the militant movement, Imad Fayez Mugniyah, who
was associated with masterminding hijackings, hostage
takings and key bombings in 1980s.

But Israel denied any involvement in the car bomb
blast that occurred in a Damascus upmarket residential
district on Tuesday night.

After confirming the killing, Hezbollah said in a
statement broadcast on the group's al-Manar television: "The
brother commander Haj Imad Mugniyah became a martyr at the
hands of the Zionist Israelis."

The head of Hezbollah's special operations unit during
the Israeli war on Lebanon in July 2006, Mugniyah was wanted
for his suspected role in a number of attacks, including the
1992 bombing of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, which
left 29 people dead.

Mugniyah was a main suspect in the abduction of
Western hostages in Lebanon during the country's 1975-1990
civil war.

Western intelligence services suspected him of working
directly for Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

He was also suspected of involvement in the 1983
Beirut bombings of the US embassy and the barracks of US and
French peacekeeping troops which killed over 350 people.

In the Gaza Strip, the radical Palestinian Hamas
movement joined Hezbollah in accusing Israel of the killing.

"Hamas considers this assassination a crime and an
example of Zionist thuggery in Arab and Islamic countries,"
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuchri said in a written statement.

Other Palestinian militant factions too blamed Israel
and condemned the attack of Hezbollah's number two.

"The stamp of the criminal (Israeli Defence Minister
Ehud) Barak is on this cowardly operation, for which, God
willing, he will personally pay a heavy price," said the
al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of Palestinian
President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement.

In the Syrian capital, the leftist Popular Front for
the Liberation of Palestine also pointed the accusing finger
at the Israelis and vowed in a statement to avenge the
killing. . .

This is more likely a CIA job
than an Israeli action.

This creep has done serious
damage to Americans
and American interests.
