Guest Onideus Mad Hatter
I sent the following to the local paper, it'll be interesting to see if they actually print it or not. It's possible that they're getting kick backs from the group who is abusing grant money to paint the shit up there in the first place. That's generally the way things run in this town, everyone buys everyone else off and it's all about who you know and how much money you have. That's no exaggeration either, every other month there's some huge new scandal in this town where it's "revealed" that someone was taking kick backs, or someone was paying off a health inspector to look the other way, or someone was raping teenage girls (the police) and the department just ignored evidence and allegations (until they were made to the police departments in surrounding cities). That last one was the funniest btw, when they had police from, I think it was the Tri Cities, who came here to Walla Walla and arrested some of our police officers. LOL Anyway, here's the article I sent about the nasti-art they painted on the building across the street from me: Living Next To Toon Town I live at 548 Edith Ave, down the street from Walla Walla Penitentiary. The other day I woke up, went about my usual routine, nothing out of the ordinary...until I looked outside. Across the street from my home is a large warehouse style building. It's definitely not the most appealing landscape, but I was able to get a really good deal on the house because of it. Unfortunately for me a group of so called "artists" has taken it upon themselves to PAINT this large metal, billboard sized monstrosity. So now, whenever I open my door, whenever I look out the window, instead of seeing a large, non-descript metal building...I get to look at giant, brightly rainbow colored, kitschy, cartoon looking GRAFFITI. Yes, it is graffiti, it is by no means "art" in my eyes and at no point did anyone ever bother to ask me, a home owner who lives directly across the street from it whether or not I would approve of such a disgusting, eye-piercing slather of infantile coloring. From my perspective it looks absolutely horrible, no different from a neighbor suddenly deciding to paint their house hot pink with green and orange polka-dots. But it's worse than that. Why? Because the people doing it, the people painting the side of this building with their "art"...they don't live here. They don't have to wake up everyday, look outside and be subjected to a Disney style invasion of the senses. They get to go home when they're done, a home that ISN'T directly across the street from a giant, billboard sized, rainbow molesting rendition of the artists favorite birds of paradise in a shocking, over saturated, blazing Technicolor like palette. I wonder how these artists would feel if someone went to THEIR neighborhood and painted the most offensive thing to the artists that they could think of on the side of their neighbors house. I wonder if they would be as infuriated as I am. I wonder if they even took the bother to consider that what THEY think of as "art" may NOT be considered as pleasing to the eye as those who are being FORCED to look at it everyday. I mean if my idea of "art" is a giant flaming skull with blood dripping down off of it, well heck, shouldn't I have just as much right to paint that on the side of their neighbors house as they have painted THEIR idea of "art" on the side of mine? -- Onideus Mad Hatter mhm ? x ? http://www.backwater-productions.net http://www.backwater-productions.net/hatter-blog Hatter Quotes ------------- "Don't ever fuck with someone who has more creativity than you do."
