Mexican Catholic Hierarchy Enjoys Opulent Lifestyle
Mexico, Nov 26 (Prensa Latina) Mexican Senator Rosario Ibarra accused
the Catholic hierarchy on Monday of preaching the gospel but not
implementing it, with an opulent lifestyle rivaling that of monarchs.
Ibarra denounced further that the higher echelons of the clergy have
made the Mexican Church uncharitable and uncommitted.
The senator became involved in a debate with Catholic leaders after
they accused her of promoting recent riots at Zocalo Square near the
Cathedral.
The square was invaded by infuriated attendees at a political rally,
confronting what they believed to be sabotage when the Cathedral bells
were run for 12 minutes interrupting a speech by former presidential
candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
The congresswoman criticized Cardinal Norberto Rivera for closing the
Cathedral for several days and only reopening it yesterday, although
the Cathedral belongs to the entire nation.
Everyone has the right to enter there and cry over their miseries and
demand justice, she concluded.
