London equities were stable at the start of trading on Thursday after a modest rise in Tokyo and losses on Wall Street tempered a winning streak in global markets. London's FTSE 100 index of top companies edged up 0.04 percent to 6,853.67 points compared with Wednesday's closing values. Tokyo stocks extended their winning streak to a sixth straight session on Thursday, but a stronger yen and profit-taking held back the Japanese market's gains. The Nikkei's modest rise followed a weak lead from Wall Street, where US stocks ended lower Wednesday on the back of mixed corporate earnings reports.
