LP hit with lawsuit over Big Pimpin / Papercut

"Super-producer Timbaland and Jay-Z have been hit with a lawsuit over the single "Big Pimpin."

Copyright co-owner Osama Admed Fahmy filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Federal Court, claiming that Timbaland illegally replayed portions of "Big Pimpin" note-for-note, using a melody lifted from the song "Khosara, Khosara" which was written by composer Baligh Hamdi and performed by Egyptian star Abdel-Halim Hafez in 1957.

"Big Pimpin," which also features UGK, appears on Jay-Z's album Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter.

Jay-Z, Timbaland, Linkin Park, EMI Music Inc. are among the defendants named in the lawsuit over the hit single, which was also mashed up on Linkin Park's song "Papercut" on the EP Collision Course."

Thats unfair, its not LP's fault, they didnt lay a claim to the song, its the other ppl's. sigh, i dont think they should be dragged into it.

Ah man...how come that there's always someone trying to get money out of people?

How old is that big pimpin song now? more than 8 years I guess

and this guy comes now and want's to get money off of those people....that's just crazy

My mom knew about the original song, I didn't think they would get sued for it since it is just a sample...

no, i agree with the orginal guy in principle coz it must be awful to make it first then some one else use ur product to make loads of money. I just disagree with him for waiting so long an dragging LP into it.

and yea its all a money wanting thing. Timb should have cleared the beat and I guess at the end of the day it should be on him, but I think it's a big deal because of their status in the music industry. If it was a rapper and producer on the local highrise level im sure there wouldnt be a problem lol.

I told you Collision Course was a bad idea!

I didn't like it, not one bit, none of the songs were mixed well, not even like Numb/Encore was that great, it was so badly edited, you could hear the repeats in chesters screams, overall was a bad album, someone should get smacked for the idea.

probable end results:

LP will be left out of it, seeing how they weren't the original ones to use the song...they used one of Jay-Z's songs.

It will most likely end up that Timberland DID get permission to sample it a while before he offered it up to Jay-Z...

...so the guy probably was already payed to have it sampled...then decided that it wasn't enough after it became a hit, then used again for another song...

something like the Nike swoosh deal, where the lady that designed it was only paid like $100 or something in a contest to design the logo. only she isn't sueing Nike, because she entered it in a contest to be used legit.

Yeah i agree, i only like the song jigga what/faint, but that's only because faint is in it..

I doubt he'll even win the lawsuit.. Ah well, it shouldn't be LP's problem; they only did a mashup. It's Jay-Z who's in trouble, and I don't really care lol ;p
