Former French economy minister Emmanuel Macron is set to announce his candidacy for next year's presidential election on Wednesday after floating the idea for months, reports said. The 38-year-old former investment banker has barely concealed his ambition to occupy the Elysee Palace since he quit the unpopular Socialist government in August. Macron, a business-friendly former protege of President Francois Hollande, will aim to exploit the deep divisions in the French left in his presidential run.
