Maoist rebels extended on Sunday for another month a unilateral ceasefire in areas devastated by typhoon Haiyan in the central Philippines, ordering guerrillas to help distribute food, water and other relief supplies in coastal and mountain villages. "The central committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines hereby announces a one-month extension of the earlier ceasefire declaration," the Maoist-led rebel group said in a statement posted in its website http://philippinerevolution.net Five days after the typhoon struck, the rebels announced a 10-day ceasefire to help distribute supplies to millions of farmers and fishermen. The government has not reciprocated the rebels' gesture but called on the guerrillas to agree on an indefinite ceasefire as both sides engage in backroom talks to restart peace negotiations, brokered by Norway, but stalled since 2011.
