Baseball's Seattle Mariners suspended Steve Clevenger for the rest of the season on Friday, as the backup catcher apologized for tweeting that protesters in Charlotte, North Carolina, should be "locked behind bars like animals". "As soon as we became aware of the tweets posted by Steve yesterday we began to examine all of our options in regard to his standing on the team," Mariners executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said Friday. The Major League Baseball team had already said it was "very disappointed" in the tweets posted on Clevenger's account.
