NORTH VERNON, Ind. -- Three sheriff's deputies rushed into a burning mobile

home in North Vernon, but were unable to rescue a woman who in the fire.

Officials said Lisa Coy, 40, died from smoke inhalation inside her family's

mobile home during the fire, which was reported at about 5 a.m. Monday. Her

husband and three children escaped safely.

State Fire Marshal Roger Johnson said smoke alarms woke the family, though

Coy possibly was disoriented and became overcome by smoke.

A cause of the fire in the town 60 miles south of Indianapolis wasn't

immeidately known.

Johnson said the Jennings County deputies made a heroic effort to save Coy

by going into the home without any protective gear
