Microsoft Security Essentials window won't stay open

I am running Windows 7 on a Lenovo laptop. When I click on Microsoft Security Essentials, the box will "flash", but will not stay open.
I ran the security scan from support.microsoft.com/security and it found ADWARE:WIN32/hotbar , and cleared it.
The MSE window still just flashes.
What further do I need to do?
