Is it even possible to like this horrible book unless you are a
Scientologist? So, besides being a huge phony, is Mitt also a
Scientologist? Hmmm....

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/04/30/romney-favors-hubbard-novel/

When asked his favorite novel in an interview shown yesterday on the
Fox News Channel, Mitt Romney pointed to "Battlefield Earth," a novel
by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. That book was turned
into a film by John Travolta, a Scientologist.

A spokesman said later it was one of Mr. Romney's favorite novels.

"I'm not in favor of his religion by any means," Mr. Romney, a Mormon,
said. "But he wrote a book called 'Battlefield Earth' that was a very
fun science-fiction book." Asked about his favorite book, Mr. Romney
cited the Bible.

Oh big freaken deal. Who cares what novels he likes. What really
matters is what brand of shoelaces he uses.
What a moronic post by the above lunatic.

L. Ron is a hack. Space Operas.

Ah, I see.

It's o.k. for every aspect of Hillary or Obama's life to be
scrutinized......but it's silly to make a remark on a Mormom's favourite sf
novel being written by a Scientologist?

You know the saying about the heat and the kitchen.....?

Such a typical antagonistic start a fight politico reaction.

"spammer" didn't say anything that you quoted before your top-post
about one side or the other.

The entire life of every single candidate on both sides is scrutinized
to the hilt.

Try to keep this about $cientology.

Why was it wrong to point out that a Mormon's favorite sf book was written
by a Scientologist?

It's not like we're talking about a tip Hillary left.......right?

You really are pathetic, but thanks!

Here's a response from a typical five year old. "You called my
friend a name so I'll call your friend a name".

Geez, what a freakon' baby.

I merely pointed out what I perceived as hypocrisy.

Your problem?

"Battlefield Earth" was a fun read. L. Ron was no Heinlein, but that book
kept me entertained.

I liked the novel (although not close to being my favorite novel) and
I think the Scientologists are nutters.

Has their been any scrutiny of their favorite works of fiction?

That's nice. I couldn't read more than 20 pages of it. It was awful, and
left a bad taste in my brain.

Now, if Romney said the MOVIE version of the book was one of his
favorite movies, THEN you need to worry about his judgment... and good
taste :p

I hated the movie, I hated the book, I hated the book on audio.

I hated everything about that crap. Also, did you read the whole
series, yeah, waaaayyyy to much pedophilia.

Even mentioning L. Ron Hubbard, or Scientology should be grounds for
assigning them to kookdom.

I'm quoted some times in magazines talking about the mess of
$cientology, but I still enjoyed the novel when I read it. As pulp
fiction, it was entertaining. I differentiate, is that terrible?

It doesn't have to be "all or nothing" about everything. You can say
there are things that "work" about $cientology and I think most critics
here (particularly the ones who were once involved) would agree. The
catch is, where were the workable parts stolen from? Dianetic$ is
abreaction, the Training Routines are hypnosis, etc. Do they "work"?
Sure they work, but it was all put together in a way to "work" to
continue getting money out of people while delivering only hope and
servitude. If you are one who says "I still apply $cientology" then I
think you're a little kooky, though.
