MLB changes error to hit in Darvish triumph

Texas Rangers star pitcher Yu Darvish lost his no-hit bid against the Boston Red Sox last week earlier than anyone knew, Major League Baseball ruled Wednesday. Officials upheld an appeal by Boston slugger David Ortiz that his seventh-inning pop fly which fell into right field should have been ruled a base hit and not an error by Texas rightfielder Alex Rios, as was ruled by the scorer at the time. Japanese 27-year-old right-hander Darvish was throwing a no-hitter at the time, having retired 20 consecutive Boston batters. Ortiz appealed the ruling of an error, which at the time ended Darvish's bid for a perfect game but kept alive his hopes for a no-hitter.
