More than 80 dead in 24 hours of fighting for key Yemen city: military sources

Heavy fighting between government loyalists and rebels for Yemen's third city Taez has left more than 80 people dead in the past 24 hours, military sources said on Monday. Military sources said Sunday that pro-government forces, supported by Gulf air strikes have made key gains against the Iran-backed rebels in Taez -- seen as a gateway to the rebel-held capital Sanaa. The latest advance on Taez came after loyalist forces made sweeping gains in south Yemen, starting with their recapture of main city Aden in mid-July.
