OS is XP (SP3). Prior to installing MSE I was using McAfee and Webroot spyware both provided as part of MSN Premium membership. I updated at the recommendation of MSN to the MSE protection system, since installing MSE i have gotten repeated warnings of a rootkit trojan. repeated cleansings and restarts gives same info. as a ploy i ran the MSE program folowed all instructions but upon restart turned computer completely off disconnected power supply and reumed operations the next day. to my surprise system upon booting indicated same DOS/Auleron.E trojan still active to my greater surprise when i reviewed the history data for the "down" period it displayed the trojan was removed(2:39AM), quarentined(3:34AM), and allowed(3:38AM),all within the time frame when the system was competely shut down (power and ethernet cables unplugged) Still when I booted up that morning the trojan error reappeared and MSE has yet to remove it permanently. Had IT friend bring in offline tech analysis virus scan and deleted MSE and webroot spyware and this scan found nothing but some low threat cookies and two possible threat threads embedded in the webroot spyware that evidently had been corrupted and did not get deleted on the uninstall of the product. Cleaned computer with another none MS product to be sure and reconnected to MS on line and Reloaded MSE and you guessed it first reboot and it alerted on to tthe same trojan DOS/Auleron.E...Any suggestions? IT guy recommended as a precaution reformating HD, and trashing MSE and going with another protection program other than the MS brands. Been a MS guy for 15 years first time they haven't been able to solve something maybe it time to move on. dfe
