Original Title: We can't get the updates to load on my mom's computer!
I downloaded the Microsoft Security Essentials without much of a problem to my mother's Compaq computer which runs on Vista, I believe, (unless it's XP)and she also has dial-up AOL service. After it was loaded, I was told that updates were needed and the Internet needed to remain on in order to do so. The program has yet to complete loading any updates and freezes up about half way through, or we get a message saying that the computer needs to be running the Internet which it already is. We have tried several times and after running for a few hours each time-not good because the phone is tied up!-nothing happens. I have cleaned out all of her cookies and other issues which might slow down the process without success. Please tell me what we can do. Thanks!
