MSE will not let me update my definitions.

MSE will not let me update my definitions. I have tried using both the MSE update button and Windows Update. The update will look like it is downloading and installing , but the progress bar will get to about 95% and then just sit there. It will try it a few times and then it will go back to the main update tab and say "Connection Failed" "Security Essentials could not complete the virus and spyware definitions update on date, time due to an internet or network connectivity issue." It is not an internet connection issue since I am using my internet connection to ask this question. I have been attempting to update for three days. What else might it be?
