My desktop PC was badly infected, so I ran MSoft Security Scanner. Seven hours later (!) the scan finished and I rebooted the PC. The viruses appeared to be gone, but so was my Internet access via Internet Explorer. I called Dell tech support. They walked me through stopping and restarting the Ethernet driver several times without success. Finally they told me they would sell me a recovery disk for $20 and I would have to reinstall Windows.
I don't want to do this because of other software that's loaded and hard to replace. So I bought a new NIC and installed it from scratch, the installation routine gave no error but the card won't function.
-- Internet Explorer shows, "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage."
-- Device manager shows all network adapters as, "Working Properly."
Can't I just reinstall the networking portion of Windows? Thanks!
