I was wondering this,

Whenever your listening to music do you pay more attention to the beat, the words or both??

I pay more attention to the beat.

Like I'll be dancing to some song with nasty lyrics but the beat is really great.......

Both. First I pay attention to the lyrics, and if they aren't that bad, then I listen to it some more and start breaking the beat up. (Like the guitar or drums)

The beat. I know all the words by heart but I NEVER think about what they mean. I just learn them and say them while owning the beat :p I had to get someone to tell me what each song meant lol

Usually both of course, but sometimes I like to or have to focus on one thing over the other.

Still, I think music would get my vote. When I play songs back in my head, there usually isn't a beat to it, oddly, unless it's hip hop

Both. Unless the song is in a different language. Then I pay more attention to just the beat and sound of the music, rather than lyrics.

Every time I listen to music I pay attention to both, the music and the beats, although the beats are sometimes sticky and that I like that in a song but yeah most of the time I listen to both.

Definatly the beat or the background music :D . If I like it, I'll listen to it a couple more times and pay attention to the rest of it. I don't understand what the song is about until I actually read the lyrics whilst listening to the song :D

both... you have to listen to the whole song, everything included, unless your trying to figure out a bass line or something...

I pay attention to the music more... I'm not exactly a beat person... unless it's got an awesome beat.. Like faint ^__^

Though I do listen to both, I tend to pay more attention to the actual instrumental, more times then not the tracks fate lies entirley on what beats/instrumental its packing.

I voted both but in some songs I usually focus more on beats or music.

Depends on what kind of music it is.

i listen to the voices...does that count as "music"? i don't really know, but if the song has bad vocals and an amazing beat, i would scratch it off of my list. but if it had the most beautiful voice blasting through the speaker with a bad beat...i would definitely check it out some more. the voice tells the story, in my opinion. so i guess i vote 'music'.

wait...are you just talking about rap songs? 'cause with rap songs it's definitely the beat  ..i guess i'll just go with 'both'
