(the order got reversed, forgot bout that
)
1. Deerhunter - Never Stops
Off of blogger faviroutes upcomming second LP 'Microcastles' it's a poppy yet experimental affair
which is both electronic and organic, the melodies and hooks on the track alone make it one of
the stand outs of the recent collection of tracks collected.
2. Bon Iver - The Wolves (ACT I & II)
Locking yourself in a cabin a good way to get inspiration? Yeah I think so, pushing out one of the
best debuts I have ever heard, this is one of the standouts a slow building track which starts off
minimal enough with just Bon Ivers sweet vocal being deliverd over strumming over the accoustic
guitar before it becomes more loud and the vocals become more amthmatic and dramatic over
drum loops, it's the build up and the sweet almost angelic delivery of the vocal which make this
track so good.
3. Errors - Still Game
Comparissons to 'Battles' are not justified this band have a sound of their own and whilst quite math
rocky in structure the element of electronic and pop sensebilites make their music a **** site more
liniear then 'Battles' the quality is most deffinatly here with a sweet melody over some decent
noodeling.
4. Health - Triceretops Remix
Health are a noise band however this off of the remix cd of theirs and a great glitchy electronic
dance number which is sure to get you at least nodding with its squeels and pulsating glitch
asphetics with the standard vocal sample on board as well.
5. Street Dogs - Mean Fist
This song is nothing special, but what it is, is good old fashioned punk sensibilities done well with
the simple riff and throbbing bass structure with the yelling without screaming/yelping vocals, it's
catchy and it's fun & it's back to the basics.
6. Feral Children - Spy/Glass House
Melodic like Animal Collective and Yeasayer but also like say Animal Collective a posetivley brutal
hook with yelling all over, with spacey guitars ala Moon & Antarctica Modest Mouse this track had
all the ingrediants to make a stone cold gem & thats exactly what it is... one of the best tracks
of the year.
7. Sigur Ros - Godan Danginn
Off of their latest LP (with the unpronouncable name) this track is beautifully melodic and feels
the room well, one of the more laid back affairs from an otherwise quite lively album, it's very pretty
and ideal for the summer.
8. Beck - Chemtrails
I found it very hard to choose a track off of the new Beck LP 'Modern Guilt' mainly because they are
all good at the very least. Also none of them truely represent the album and this one doesn't either
but it's one of the more down tempo melodic shoegazeing moments and I think it's great.
9. The Young Republic - Shes Not Waiting This Time
With the standard and simple string tuning with no showey bits, this song is just pretty it isn't
complex wankery or anything it's all very standard stuff associated with a track that is designed
to pull a few string on ye olde heart box and it does it well.
10. The Hold Steady - Constructive Summer
It's upbeat Thin Lizzy-esc rock asphetics coupled with a nice guitar riff and a nice piano jingle
make this one very very very very catchy song.
11. Weezer - Troublemaker
Highlight of the dissapointing 'Red' album, this is simple pop punk at it's finest... you will undoubtly
be shouting I'M A TROUBLEMAKER NEVER BEEN A FAKER in your local rock club soon.
