My computer has been attacked by smart protection 2012. How can I get rid of this on Windows...

My IBM T42 running Windows XP Pro, with Security Essentials has been over run with "Smart Protection 2012" while opening an email from a trusted source. I am presently on another lap top as the IBM is barely functional. Attempted running Security Essentials, yet this virus shut it down and rendered by computer helpless. You have helped me before and done a great job..just really need someone to respond asap, as I have a presentation to make tomorrow morning the info is on that Lap Top...thanks very much
