I feel you're pain, bro. I work as a 3rd shift grocery stock manager at Meijer (a local tri-state wanna be wal-mart). I hear this same complaint every week. "Why the fuck did you only schedule 6 people to stock a 2000 piece truck?" Hours scheduled are as much a part of the budget as anything else in the business. I have a pre-determined amount of hours to work with every week. I find myself taking my next weeks alotted hours home to work on the next weeks schedule. It is soooo hard to balance the hours alotted with the work load incoming. Often these figures are dictated to my boss from the corporate level. Corporates response is a term that I have grown to loath. Productivity. I have been in the stock biz for 13 years. However, it never fails that some 'suit' will come to me with a new way of raising productivity. They go into this rant aboout how much easier my job will be if I implement the new roll-out program and they use this pitch in a manner that is supposed to get me excited. These programs often involve tons of extra paper work, graphs, and computer productivity planners. The end result and bottom line is always the same. Because of the new productivity we will save $$$$money$$$$ because now we can and will use less hours to accomplish our goal.

On paper it always looks good, especialy to the fresh out of college business majors that have never rolled their shirts sleaves up and put in work. Its the many things that happen throughout the shift that send their little production program flying off a cliff. Call-offs are the first issue with under-scheduling. If I get a truck in that has a tipped pallet then my production just got fucked.

Once i got a truck in with 6 tipped pallets, about 100 cases per pallet. All spilled, broken, and fucked. It took 4 hours to unload this truck. My boss the next day was red faced angry at the lack of production. He said he couldn't believe that this would cause such a delay. Like I said before, i've been doing this for a long time. So I had the presence of mind to photograph the whole thing. Every store keeps a polaroid camera on hand for any 1 of a million reasons. Fucking jerk would'nt back down and insisted that we used it as an excuse to slack. With that I added "look at the damn security video if you have anymore questions".

My point is this, your managers have managers who have managers. Shit always rolls down hill, it's Newtons law.

i am sofa king we todd did.

Ahh good to hear from GF's biggest pussy, and longtime member, the squirrely bastard, Captain Frenchfry.

 wow the people they hired to be managers at my job are fucking stupid.
Ah, the start of another classic crybaby bitch post from a pussy.

i work unloading semi's for a clothing store.
You mean your job is unloading a gooze of jizz in the store mannequins.

most of the trucks we get have around 700-1000 boxes in them that all have to be cut open and put up on racks to take to the floor.
Boxes of jeans and shirts must be torture on the back of a young man such as yourself. When I was 18, I worked in a packing house doing load out, carrying 80lb boxes of beef across the room and palletizing them, back then, it was easy and fun, but as years have went on, no way I could do that, but as for me feeling sorry for you and your bitch posse carrying 20lb boxes, and only 700-1000 of them, ain't gonna happen. I'd do that many in an hour... pussy..

but these idiot's seem to have a HARD time staffing for the trucks. yesterday night we had only 4 peopl to unload 800 boxes.

hmm, 200 20lb boxes each... oh the pain...

we normally have 7-8 people.
Please tell me they only pay you minimum wage, thats 6 or 7 people too many.

and last week they only scheduled 2 people to unload a truck. god damn they are fucking stupid!!!!!!!
I'd say they are one hell of a great enterprising business by cutting costs by not using unneeded labor.

In conclusion, GF's biggest bitch, captainfrenchfry, proves to us all yet again, what a big pussy he really is.

Pfft!

Well, get a change of work and stop whining!

Surely in the oh-so-mighty USA there must be a plethora

of career choices for you incredibly resourceful yanks?

Or are you all thick as planks and stuck with crap jobs?

:)

We're not all this lazy... some of us actually realize that we get paid more for the extra time spent (unloading trucks in this case).

The second amendment provides its teeth.

My first real job was when I was 16. I worked for a contractor as a go-boy and doing general labour, Shit like hauling 40lbs bags of shingles up a ladder and onto a roof or moving ALL hte lumber form the trucks to the site (Were it inaccessable by truck) and all this for 12 hour days. Never slept better in my life.

The way approch under scheduling and the like is, you get done what you can while maintaining your regular levels of productivity. When your day ends, tidy up so the people after you ar'nt fucked, and anything that you didn't have the time/help for dosn't get done. The managment has only themselves to blame.

What tires me is mental work. If I have a stressful day, or one where I have to be "on" from go to whoa without breaks, then I'm exhausted.

I worked as a furniture removalist for a while, and thought of that as paid exercise. I quit my gym membership and just went to work, exercised, and got paid to do it!! Occasionally on a 14-16 hour day lifting and lugging, I'd be stuffed at the end of it, but usually no problems.

Now I work as the senior network administrator for a multi-billion dollar company. So a lot of responsibility, and you get a lot of complicated problems to fix, sometimes all at once. So the mental energy you expend in nutting out all the issues and resolving them I've found far more exhausting than physical work.

At the end of the day, if you're working and getting paid, be thankful I reckon...

no see that's the problem at my job we are the people that try to tidy up after our messes but every fucking day we come back in some dickhead has messed up our entire backfloor and we end up spending an hour just to clean it up enough so we can use it. the shit just keeps getting piled on us day after day.
