I really don't want to post this topic, but I feel called, for some unknown reason, to post my perspective on what's been happening on LPF lately. I know there's been some threads like this already, and I hate to duplicate ideas, but I need to say what I'm thinking right now.
DISCLAIMER: These are purely my thoughts on the general status of LPF and its members. I'm not all that familiar with the conversations and fights that have gone on that have led LPF to this condition, so I won't be quoting any specific members or instances. This is simply how I view LPF as a society that appears to have severe stability problems. I'm not here to point the finger at anyone, so please don't claim that I am. Again, I don't know what's really happened to make LPF this way; I'm going off of ONLY my personal social experiences and ONLY what I have seen on LPF myself.
I remember when I first joined LP Association's forums. I also remember on how about a month later, I was banned because I asked for MP3s and "spammed" my site in the "All Links to Fan Remixes Go Here" thread, which was made specifically for promoting fan remix sites. Just recently, I stumbled upon a thread on LPA where one of the staff members tried to acheive some sort of peace on the forums, and all that resulted in was a bunch of flames and arguments and, ultimately, a closed topic.
I'm seeing the same thing happening here. And that, I'm sure we would all agree, is not good.
To me, the situation here sounds a lot like the American Civil War. For those of you who are not American, I apologize - I'm American and the only example I can think of right now is that. Think of what would have happened if the southern states had won. The United States of America and The Confederate States of America? Honestly, do you think those two countries would have had a peaceful border? Or any peaceful relations, for that matter?
It's the same thing here. Everyone here is splitting up into cliques. The LPF staff, the elite members, the blue members, everyone. Everybody here is facing off against each other, and for what?
We all have a job here on LPF, whether we're a blue member, an Elite, or a staff member. No one person has to set an example for the rest of us. We all have to set the example for each other. The simple fact is this - we are all HUMAN. As such, we will have differences in opinion, and we MUST tolerate those differences, or else we will fail as a community.
Look at the Soviet Union. For years the people of the Soviet Union suffered under mutated militaristic totalitarianism, a government run with an iron fist by a few elite figures with a bent interest in total control over other humans. Everyone had to think and feel the same way. No one was allowed to stray from the norm. And what happened to the Soviet Union? It collapsed.
China is the same way. From my point of view, I think China is worse than what the Soviet Union was. It's getting better, no doubt, but it's still bad. Human thought and emotion are outright forbidden, and by who? A government of humans ruling humans? Who has the right to tell me what to feel? What to think? What to say?
Now, I'm not bashing anyone from China or the Soviet Union, because we all know that no one person is responsible for how those countries turned out. But those countries had severe problems with their governmental institutions. And, not to claim that America is perfect (look at our President, for one thing), but the United States doesn't have those problems, because in the United States, one is allowed to speak their mind and feel whatever they wish.
Just as not one person alone is responsible for the problems in oppressive countries, not one person alone is responsible for LPF's problems. I'm sure most of us, at one point or another, have had a disagreement with another LPF member. I did once - I'd prove it, but the thread was deleted. The other guy really wasn't an LPF member; he was more of an LP hater, but the idea remains the same.
For a society to exist and function, two conditions must be met. 1, its leaders must be willing to let the society's members say and do as they wish, so long as their actions do not infringe on others. 2, its members must be willing to let the society's members say and do as they wish, so long as their actions do not infringe on others.
I'm not saying that everyone has to be friends on LPF. It would be nice, but it is a practical impossibility. But what everyone on LPF must do is RESPECT one another, staff members, elites, and blue members alike. If we do not respect each other, LPF will fail. I guarantee you that.
For many people here, LPF is home. I know it is for me. What would happen if LPF died? All of those people would be dispersed. The friendships made here would be mostly destroyed, and for what? A disagreement of a select few people over a difference of opinion or a challenge in authority? It's not worth risking the existence of one of the best LP communities around just to prove your point and feel good about yourself.
In short, life is just that - short. We don't have time to bicker about "I was unfairly banned" or "Shut the **** up, hater" or anything else like that...do we?
I know ShinodaBear made a thread like this before, pleading with the members of LPF to reconcile. After skimming that thread, it looks to me that that thread did not accomplish much. I saw more fighting, and yet another closed thread, but I'm not so sure anything that great came out of it. So please, don't turn this thread into another fighting match. LPF doesn't need that.
It's time for EVERYONE on LPF to come together. No one here is perfect, which means that to acheive the common good, we have to set aside our differences and personal feelings and thoughts. If we don't, all that will happen is LPF will fail and become another LPA. And I personally would not want to see that happen. LPF is a great community, and I, for one, would hate to see it collapse. Together, we can prevent that.
It's time to forgive and forget. I invite anyone with an apology to make to another member to post it here so everyone can see it. This way, we can move on together, as one LPF.
Let's start with a clean slate, shall we?
Sincerely,
Agent2594
